You may ask, “Can I golf in Ballybunion, or in Ireland all year round?” Yes you can, is the answer. The weather rarely gets cold enough that a course would be closed for a prolonged period of time. But, it has happened occasionally. It hardly ever snows in Ireland. The winters don’t get very cold. It’s more wind and rain you would be concerned with than icy temperatures. As you probably already know, the summers are never really that hot either, and can therefore provide very comfortable conditions for golfing.

The Ryder Cup – What a weekend!

So. What a weekend of golf! Of course if you were here staying at Teach de Broc, you would have been out on the course all weekend, and missed most of the Ryder Cup! But you would have certainly seen it last night. What a finish and a fitting tribute to Seve Ballesteros. In fact, the great man once said about golfing in Ballybunion “It demands greater imagination and shot-making skills than anything I have ever known. It makes me feel the same way as when I first saw St Andrews (where he won the British Open in 1984). The magic is the same.”

The Listowel Races – Sunday 16th to Saturday 22nd September

The summer may be over, even though the weather has ironically improved. The Listowel races are about to get underway. It’s only up the road from Ballybunion, so why not take in something different if you find yourself around North Kerry over the next week. The races were originally held in Ballybunion but moved to Listowel in 1858 due to faction fighting! Originally it was known as the North Kerry Hunt Steeplechase Meeting.

What’s on around Ballybunion in September and October

It’s early September and surprise surprise, the weather is holding up and is pleasant. A lot more pleasant than summer was supposed to be! If you’ve just arrived in Ballybunion to play golf, then you just got really lucky with the weather. However, the downside is that the evenings have gotten shorter, so you can only really play until about six or seven o clock. What to do after that is the question! You could take advantage of our fantastic menu in our restaurant, then wander downtown for a few pints of Guinness or some strong Irish whiskey to keep the autumn chill at bay. If that’s not your thing, there’s plenty more going on around the area.

Well, how many golfers have you seen who look like they have been grinding it out in the gym or on an uphill jog to keep fit? Probably not many. Golfers don't look like the most physically fit people out there. You will see plenty of pro golfers who would appear "heavy set" compared to a tennis player or soccer player. John Daly for example. Saying that, you will see plenty of "big boned" professional rugby players who can move on a rugby pitch!

So. Rory McIlroy, MBE, bursts back onto the scene after winning the 2012 PGA Championship by a record eight strokes. Well, was he ever really off the scene? A recent dip in form means anyone who bet on him winning the PGA Championship picked up some nice winnings on the Monday after the competition. The 23 year old is the world number one and is the youngest multiple major champion since Seve Ballesteros won the Masters in 1980.
